My family came up this weekend and we had the most wonderful time. I also got to see an old friend of mine, Emily, in the city Friday, which was an amazing surprise as well.
On Friday, they didn't get into the city until late, so they dropped some things off at my apartment (food, food and more food) and then we went back and I stayed at the hotel with them, because there is heat there that I don't have to pay for.
They surprised me with my birthday presents and my new phone. Bridget picked out the most beautiful leather work bag that I can't wait to start using this week. And my parents gave me the Kate Spade bag I have been coveting for years. It was totally unexpected, but it is the most perfect bag. Obsessed. I also joined the rest of the world and got an iPhone 5, so now my pictures won't suck so bad.
On Saturday, I showed my mom's college roommates whole fam around Fordham, something I totally don't mind doing, especially when Fordham is so gorgeous in the fall.
Then we headed downtown to Chelsea Market, the place that literally surprises me every time I go. Not only did we get teeny little donuts from the Doughnuttery, and the most delicious quesadilla on a homemade tortilla, but we found a nut free bakery. Eleni's. I have literally never been so excited about baked goods before. When my mom told me I could pick out anything and I didn't even have to scrutinize labels or ask a million questions, I almost cried. Being allergic to nuts your whole life makes moments like that so so exciting.
We shopped around for the rest of the day and had an early dinner at John's of 12th, where the special just happened to be goat cheese ravioli. After walking so many miles, and having a belly full of ravioli and red wine, I went back to my apartment in the Bronx where I passed out at 9:30. Life of the party, I know.
I love when my parents and sister visit because even though we're such a circus, I miss them all so much while I'm here. They are so loving and I love sharing my life with them when I can. It was sad when they left Sunday, but I'm super happy I'll be able to see them in a little over two weeks for Thanksgiving.
