Outfit Inspiration: Mackenzie Horan

mackenzie horan design darling

Mackenzie's blog — Design Darling—was one of the first I came across and followed. Her classic style with fun little details was something that really spoke to me, as well as her love for all things navy and pink. Now I totally look to her blog for all kinds of style inspiration, and if I'm feeling uninspired while planning my outfits, I'll definitely think "what would Mackenzie wear?" and my crisis is solved shortly. I also blogged about Mackenzie here on Lovelyish.

Navy and Black

I've followed fashion rules forever. I never wear white jeans or shorts after Labor Day and I never wore black with navy blue. Never

But suddenly, it feels okay. Like navy blue and black don't make me look like I got dressed in the dark. It's chic.

I'm a safe person, I routinely wear navy, pink and white, because they go together. But navy and blue, a typically not okay mix, seems grown up and sophisticated. And I want all of it.

This is a little inspiration I've found on Pinterest:

More Love For New York

20130923-212905.jpg

In relation to my post last weekend about feeling like a real New Yorker, there are few things I love more. I love (and hate) when people ask me for directions. It flatters me that I look like I fit into this enormous city that was once such a culture shock to me.

I remember the first time I came to New York when I was in 10th grade. I had fallen in love with the city through the gossip girl books. (Lol) I remember seeing actual New Yorkers and knowing that I stuck out like a sore thumb in my fleece and uggs. And I wanted so badly to feel like I belonged.

I remember that time so clearly. Now, six years later (holy sh*t) I've slowly developed my own personal style and I've really grown up.

I know style isn't everything, but I truly enjoy reading about fashion and taking the time to come up with my outfits and put together new looks. I love showing people new brands or looks I've found. I love looking for the perfect item for weeks until I finally find the perfect brand with the perfect fit for the perfect price.

If I don't end up staying in New York, I'm glad it's given me this time to grow and to learn and to be exposed to something I've ended up loving so much.

Currently...

Just cuz...here are a few things I'm currently ______(fill in the blank-ing).

Watching: The September Issue on Netflix. I am literally in love with this documentary.  It was absolutely enthralling to get a real view into Vogue, and see the people who are so passionate about what they do.

Eating: Luna Bar, Chocolate Covered Bananas from Trader Joe's. I've loved Luna Bars for a while now, may favorites being Peppermint Stick, S'Mores and Lemon Zest.  I recently discovered frozen banana bites when I was home and I am ob.sessed.  They're so good and they're not even that bad for you.  They are bananas, after all.

Wanting: (P)Leather leggings.  I'm not usually super edgy or hip, my style errs more on the side of safe and preppy, but after a lot of contemplation, I think a pair of faux leather pants could really work in a lot of ways.  The search begins.

Obsessing Over: Finding a navy blue skirt, as similar as possible to the J. Crew City Mini, and updating my makeup collection from drugstore brands to something a little more...grown up.

Dreading: Grocery shopping.  Waiting in a line at Trader Joe's after class and then lugging my food back to the Bronx is not my idea of a fun time.

Looking at: The cutest dogs in the world .  I think I've mentioned this blog before, but I don't care. Corgis are perfect.

Wishing I could afford: This bracelet, this shirt, these earrings, this necklace, this duffle bag, these flats, and these glasses.  I guess I went a little C. Wonder crazy...

Listening to: Mumford & Sons.  Its the perfect rainy day music.  Its always perfect, no matter what kind of mood I'm in.
